Before starting, you must know the IPAddress of your PC at work. To find your IPAddress click Start > Run > type CMD and press enter. In the
black box that opens type ipconfig and press enter. Make a note of your IP Address. eg: 192.168.0.123
You must also know the public IPAddress of your ADSL router at work. To find the public IPAddress of your ADSL router at work, use your PC at work to visit www.whatismyipaddress.com. Make a note of the public IPAddress of your ADSL router at work e.g.: 80.229.7.96
1. AT WORK: Configure the PC you want to connect to receive incoming connections: Control Panel > System > Remote:
Tick the two boxes below:
At work your systems administrator must configure ISA server and Remote Access Server and the firewall to allow incoming connections via VPN.
2. AT HOME: Create a VNP connection: Control Panel > Network Connections > Create a New Connection. The ‘new connection wizard, will open. Follow the steps below:
Enter the public IPAddress of your router at work
Test the connection by clicking the desktop shortcut.
Username = the name you use to login at work.
Password = the password you use to login at work
During the connection three authentication screens will appear:
NB. Once you are connected to the VPN you will no longer be able to connect to the internet.
This is a security design feature preventing your PC from becoming an insecure tunnel from the internet to your PC at work.
Once the VPN connection is established, you can use remote desktop to connect to any PC at work that was configured in step 1.
3. Connect using remote desktop: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Remote
Desktop Connection. Use the IP Address of your PC at work. eg 192.168.0.243
Logon using the name and password you use at work.
Disconnect by logging off or by using Start > disconnect.
Remember to disconnect the VPN connection – click the desktop icon or the icon at the bottom
right of screen and select ‘Disconnect’
